GRADUATION PLEDGE MANUAL

How To Create a Graduation Pledge Program:         <

 I.  Creating the Pledge

  1.   When creating the pledge, remember that it will carry on for future classes, so be sure to formulate a universal message.  The pledge should be explicit and concise, but informative enough to express a clear understanding of the program and its cause.  The pledge should make it clear to anyone who pledges that he or she will make an effort to commit and promote its causes in the future.  Below is the CSU, Stanislaus Pledge.

“I __________, as a student of CSU Stanislaus, pledge to explore and take into account the environmental consequences, no matter how small of an effect they might have, of any job I may consider.  I will make sure to push improvement in these aspects of any organization for which I work, and among the people I may work with.”

  2.  Other schools have used the Pledge provided by the Graduation Pledge Alliance which states, I pledge to explore and take into account the social and environmental consequences of any job I consider and will try to improve these aspects of any organizations for which I work."  The website, www.graduationpledge.com, offers more information.

  3.  The most essential tasks for you to accomplish are making the Pledge ribbons, cards and also a way for seniors to sign the pledge.  Earth Day, April 22, is a great time to set up a booth and recruit seniors to sign. Seniors who sign the pledge are promised a green ribbon that reads, “CSU STANISLAUS & (year),” with gold imprinting, which they will receive during graduation rehearsals along with the graduation pledge card.  The card will include the pledge and the name of the person.
